FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL ENQUIRIES

I am a complete beginner with no prior experience. Am I suitable to start training?

Most definitely! Our program is catered to people of all interest levels. Beginners are more than welcome!

I haven't been exercising for a long time and I am afraid I can't keep up with the intensity. Will this be a problem?

Not at all! Our classes are suited for everyone of varying fitness and interest levels. Although there may be some challenging movements from time to time, scaled down options of the same exercises are available so that your body can progressively get used to the movements and intensity.

I have an old injury/a pre-existing health condition. Is it still okay for me to train?

Of course! Scaled down options of some movements will be available in order for your body to strengthen up progressively without over-exerting your condition. However, do inform the coaches beforehand of your condition so that we can monitor your situation during class better. A doctor's memo will also be beneficial as proof of clearance for strenuous activities.

I am over the age of 40. Am I still suitable for the program?

Yes, of course! In fact, here at Cubs Combat School, other than youths, we also highly encourage the middle aged, retirees, and seniors (above 55 years old) to participate in our combat sports program to keep an active lifestyle while learning a new skill that keeps the mind and body alert and healthy!

My child has some developmental issues (e.g. ADHD, ADD, Autism etc), can my child still participate in the activities?

Most definitely! Combat sports has been researched to be beneficial for youths with developmental issues as it provides the right amount of stimuli for them to stay focused on a task. For special cases, we will also permit a caregiver to accompany them for the entire duration of the class to ease them into the session.

TRAINING & PROGRAM RELATED QUESTIONS

What are the differences between the disciplines offered? How would I know which one suits me most?

Muay Thai is a stand-up striking sport involving a combination of Boxing, elbows, and various types of kicks; originating from Thailand as a martial art form used traditionally for warfare.

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a grappling art that involves a series of Wrestling takedowns, submissions, and chokeholds, often utilizing leverage and technique against bigger opponents.

MMA or mixed martial arts is a modern combat sport that combines striking, wrestling, and grappling to handle oncoming pressures by the opponent.

Come try a session to see which one you prefer! Perhaps you might be addicted to all of them!

I may not be comfortable doing full contact sparring. Can I still train?

Not an issue! Sparring during classes are usually conducted under the supervision of trained coaches. For first-timers with no prior experience, you may have the option to observe a round or two first before joining in for the sparring rounds. But not to worry, sparring rounds are usually kept light and technical with our members' safety as top priority.

What is a suitable age to start training?

We take in students from as young as 3 years old for Cubs Combat School to as old as over 55 years old for New Era MMA! Our bodies are incredibly adaptable regardless of our age. Anything is possible as long as you set your mind to it!

I would like to train together with my child/children. Is there a program for this arrangement?

Although we do not have a specific class for families to train together, we do have Adult classes that run concurrently with the Kids' classes so that Mums and Dads can clock in a workout session too!

For Private Training classes, where will the sessions be held?

At the moment, Private Training classes will be held either at Elevate Fight Lab (Little India area) or a location at your own convenience. Do note that Private Training rates may vary for off-site locations depending on travel requirements.

Will I expect to see immediate results after starting training?

As with all other activities, combat sports training is a journey. While different people improve at different rates, consistency is the key ingredient to seeing results in both technical skills and fitness levels.
